Phoenix summers wouldn’t be complete without a staycation! Cassie from ExplorewithCassie took me on an adventure to escape to Wekopa Resort & Casino.

Fort McDowell Adventures

We started off the weekend at the crack of dawn at the stables at Fort McDowell Adventures! We prepared to go horseback riding. I was super nervous because it was my first time! I rode a mare called “Panda” and she was totally my soul sister. She would try to eat and drink any opportunity she had, but I showed her who’s boss. Our guide, Dallon, was sweet and took us to the Salt River - absolutely gorgeous with the morning sun!

Afterwards, we checked into our room. The views were unbeatable; a mixture of the mountains, cacti, and fantastic pool. We had a Golfers Suite, which means we had a living room, fridge, and microwave, and Cassie and I took full advantage of all the space in our room!

That night, we dined at Ember, Wekopa’s fine dining establishment. The piano was playing and a female singer crooned tunes as we entered the restaurant, setting the ambiance for classy and relaxing. The staff was very sweet and accommodating, and brought out multiple dishes for us to try, including the Ujih Hot Stone with Wagyu beef cooked in Truffle Ponzo, that simply melted in my mouth. The sommelier gave us great recommendations on wines from the multitude they carry, and I was not disappointed. For my entree, I ordered the Braised Buffalo Short Rib, which fell off the bone - absolutely tender with every bite. The Maine Lobster & Truffle Risotto also was a great accompaniment to the dish!

WKP at Wekopa Resort & Casino

We swung over to WKP to watch Hollywood & the Hitman perform live. It was amazing to witness and hear live music again! Cassie and I could not stop talking about the sparkly jeans that the lead vocalist had on - we wanted a pair! We listened to them play country music hits and jammed out while drinking blue, Aloha Punch drinks. The wings at WKP are outstanding, and you can get different flavor sauces including the delicious Wild Korean BBQ. We even got to meet the man behind the food, Chef Mario Ventura!

We went exploring the casino afterwards, and notably, it is a very clean, non-smoking casino which was absolutely refreshing! The casino grants free play to newbies, so Cassie and I wandered the slot machines. I bet $2 on one of the slot machines and hit the jackpot! That’s right, I hit the jackpot! I was astounded and ecstatic! Not bad for beginner’s luck!

Amethyst Spa at Wekopa Resort & Casino

The next day was equally was enjoyable as the last! We went down to Amethyst Spa for 90 minute massages. I received a Yavapai Swedish Legacy massage while Cassie received a Yavapai Deep Legacy massage. It was just what I needed to release all the stress in my shoulders! My masseuse definitely gave me the relaxation I was looking for, and Cassie agreed, it was just what the doctor ordered.

We spent the remainder of our time lazing by the pool and relaxing. We wandered to the gift store where they carry artisanal hand-crafted gifts, and enjoyed sunset views on our balcony. Not once, did I feel like I was even close to the urbanity of Phoenix, and this unique oasis is only 30 minutes from home. I can’t wait to come back!
