Coffee Spotlight: Pura Vida Grinds
“Pura Vida” means “simple life” or “pure life”, and in Costa Rica, it is a way of life. Owners of Pura Vida Grinds, Angela and Roberto, definitely bring this essential “Pure Vida” to the Valley. “We want to bring Costa Rican culture here one cup at a time,” says Roberto.
Pura Vida Grinds started out as a coffee truck in 2016. Driving from spot to spot was fun, but once the pandemic hit, they had to rethink their plans. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the two were able to open their own cafe, complete with Costa Rican flair. The duo adorns the walls of the cafe with eclectic art pieces and showcases true, local Costa Rican artists. Next month, Roberto’s dad is even bringing exotic honey over from the homeland. The Costa Rican community and coffee lovers alike couldn’t be happier.
I learned a lot about Costa Rica speaking with Roberto and Angela. For instance, in Costa Rica there’s many different micro climates. “In one day you can get a volcanic massage, go zip lining, and then go to the beach!” Angela exclaimed. It’s no wonder so many people vacation and honeymoon there! The couple seek to bring a little taste of paradise here to the Valley. Speaking of which, I had the pleasure of trying their bestseller, “The Lobo”. It includes Danzeisen Dairy Chocolate Milk, Caramel Syrup, and Espresso. It tastes just like Costa Rican paradise!
